Our goal is to create a forum of honest inquiry, informed discourse, and reasonable presentations of even the most volatile of issues. Our ultimate goal is to bring moral and/or philosophical clarity to our culture, our world, and our very existence."

We welcome all perspectives, and we seek to encourage informed discourse. Etcetera itself does not take a particular stand on any issue, but we do seek to represent the spectrum of opinions honestly and clearly.

We encourage people to be bold, kind, and committed to friendship in the midst of disagreements on any of the issues we discuss (which have included the Occupy movement, gun rights, religious holidays, the Reason Rally, atheism and theism, entertainment, the American Dream, morality and ethics, political systems...)

Our panelists have included quite a range of religious and non-religious speakers, and our audience represents a wide spectrum here in TC - Christians, atheists, agnostics, Buddhists, Wiccans, humanists, Republicans, Democrats, and members of the LGBT community.

If you have not been able to be at one of our meetings, I would encourage you to join us. 7:00 tomorrow night!

Re: Who is behind etcetera?

I would like to know if your group supports equality. I tend to join groups who are open minded. As an individual I feel that it is important we allow choice, and choice is not an agenda. You can believe it is wrong if you want, but to deny an individual his rights is wrong, due to the American dream, pursuit of happiness, freedoms, as well as separation between church and state. If people are doing this through their own faith they are also pushing their own beliefs and lifestyles on others, which they often like to claim of the gay community. They are saying that you need to live by the bible even if it is not your chosen religion by denying the LGBT community their rights. We all have our own religious beliefs, not everyone is a christan, buddest, catholic, or atheist. What if one of these people tried to make you adhere to their beliefs?

Re: “The American Dream” Highlights

Beth, I'd like to hear more about the role magic and supernatural beings are playing in popular culture. (You mentioned a recent discussion with an author.) What are your thoughts on what that says about the collective state of mind of our youth?

Re: In Praise of Doubt

Thanks, Greg! I'd love to talk to you more. Email me at anthony@etceteratc.org.

Re: In Praise of Doubt

Hi Anthony,

Ted Smith suggested I might be interested in your meetings and I found my way via your email to this site. I have a background in philosophy and sociology of religion, so Luc's book was quite good and I'm fairly familiar with Berger's thought. I found your presentation here very thoughtful and helpful. The American Dream theme should prompt quite a discussion.

Blessings on your work,

Gary Hogue

Re: When and where

So true...
